Editorial Recruitment Policy and Workflow

Purpose

The Journal of Integrated Socio-Economic Systems and Islamic Finance (JISSIF) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of scholarly publishing through a competent, diverse, and internationally recognized Editorial Board. The Editorial Board provides academic leadership, ensures the integrity of the editorial process, promotes the Journal within the global research community, and contributes to its continued growth, visibility, and reputation.

JISSIF seeks to recruit distinguished scholars and experienced professionals with demonstrated expertise in areas relevant to the Journal's aims and scope. Editorial appointments are based on academic excellence, research achievements, professional integrity, and a commitment to advancing high-quality scholarly publishing.

Editorial Structure

Editor-in-Chief

The Editor-in-Chief (EiC) provides the overall academic, strategic, and editorial leadership of the Journal. The EiC is responsible for defining the Journal's vision, aims, scope, and editorial policies while ensuring that all published content meets the highest standards of scientific quality, research integrity, and publication ethics.

The responsibilities of the Editor-in-Chief include:

providing strategic direction for the Journal's growth and development;
safeguarding editorial independence and academic integrity;
overseeing the peer-review and editorial decision-making processes;
making final decisions on manuscript acceptance or rejection;
ensuring compliance with the Journal's ethical and publication policies;
supervising and supporting Associate Editors, Guest Editors, and Editorial Board members;
promoting the Journal internationally to enhance its quality, visibility, and scholarly impact; and
fostering productive relationships with authors, reviewers, readers, and academic institutions.

Deputy Editor

The Deputy Editor supports the Editor-in-Chief in the strategic, editorial, and operational management of the Journal and serves as the principal deputy in overseeing the editorial process. Working closely with the Editor-in-Chief, the Deputy Editor helps ensure the timely, consistent, and ethical handling of manuscripts while maintaining the Journal's academic standards and editorial quality.

The responsibilities of the Deputy Editor include:

assisting the Editor-in-Chief in implementing the Journal's editorial policies, strategic objectives, and publication standards;
overseeing the editorial workflow and monitoring the progress of manuscript handling to ensure timely editorial decisions;
conducting preliminary editorial assessments of submitted manuscripts and assigning suitable manuscripts to Associate Editors where appropriate;
supporting the management of the peer-review process and ensuring that reviews are conducted fairly, objectively, confidentially, and in accordance with the Journal's policies;
providing editorial recommendations on manuscripts and assisting the Editor-in-Chief in making publication decisions;
resolving editorial issues arising during manuscript processing, including reviewer selection, conflicting reviewer reports, and procedural matters;
ensuring compliance with publication ethics, research integrity standards, and the Journal's editorial policies;
assisting in the recruitment, mentoring, and coordination of Associate Editors, Editorial Board members, and reviewers;
contributing to the planning and development of Special Issues, thematic collections, and other editorial initiatives;
promoting the Journal within the international research community and encouraging high-quality manuscript submissions;
supporting activities related to journal indexing, quality improvement, and international visibility; and
acting on behalf of the Editor-in-Chief during periods of absence or where delegated authority has been assigned.

The Deputy Editor performs these responsibilities in close consultation with the Editor-in-Chief and is expected to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, impartiality, confidentiality, editorial independence, and publication ethics.

Associate Editors

Associate Editors support the Editor-in-Chief in managing the editorial and peer-review process. They oversee manuscripts assigned to them from initial editorial assessment through peer review and provide recommendations regarding publication.

Their responsibilities include:

evaluating submitted manuscripts for suitability within the Journal's scope;
selecting qualified and independent peer reviewers;
monitoring the quality, fairness, and timeliness of peer review;
assessing reviewer reports and making editorial recommendations;
ensuring compliance with publication ethics and editorial policies;
assisting in the development of the Journal's academic scope and strategic priorities; and
promoting the Journal within their professional and academic communities.

Responsibilities of Editorial Board Members

Editorial Board members serve as ambassadors and academic advisors to the Journal. They are expected to actively support the Journal's editorial mission and contribute to its academic development.

Editorial Board members are expected to:

evaluate manuscripts within their areas of expertise when requested;
recommend qualified and independent peer reviewers for submitted manuscripts;
provide expert opinions or second editorial assessments when reviewer reports are conflicting or additional specialist expertise is required;
contribute to the development and refinement of the Journal's editorial policies and strategic direction;
propose emerging research themes and recommend topics for Special Issues;
organize or serve as Guest Editors for thematic or Special Issues where appropriate;
prepare editorials or invited commentaries for Special Issues under their Guest Editorship;
promote the Journal among colleagues, research institutions, professional organizations, and academic networks;
encourage the submission of high-quality original manuscripts;
recommend suitable conferences, workshops, and academic events for Journal promotion;
identify and recommend qualified scholars for appointment to the Editorial Board;
undertake peer-review assignments in a timely and professional manner; and
submit their own high-quality scholarly work and encourage leading researchers to contribute to the Journal.

Editorial Board members are also expected to uphold the highest standards of publication ethics, maintain confidentiality, disclose conflicts of interest, and support the JISSIF 's commitment to fairness, integrity, diversity, and academic excellence.

Editorial Recruitment Workflow

Appointments to the Editorial Board are made through a transparent and merit-based selection process designed to ensure that the Journal benefits from broad international expertise and balanced disciplinary representation.

Potential Editorial Board members may be identified through:

outstanding publication and citation records;
recognized expertise within disciplines relevant to the Journal;
previous service as reviewers or Guest Editors for the Journal;
authorship of high-quality publications in the Journal;
recommendations from existing Editorial Board members;
nominations from respected scholars or academic institutions; or
demonstrated leadership within relevant professional or research communities.

Each prospective member is evaluated by the Editor-in-Chief, and where appropriate, in consultation with senior editors or the Editorial Board before an invitation is extended.

Selection Criteria

Editorial Board appointments are based on academic merit, professional reputation, and the ability to contribute meaningfully to the Journal's development.

In selecting Editorial Board members, JISSIF considers:

recognized expertise in one or more areas within the Journal's scope;
a strong and sustained record of high-quality scholarly publications;
experience in peer review, editorial activities, or academic leadership;
research impact and professional standing within the discipline;
geographical diversity to ensure international representation;
institutional diversity and balanced disciplinary coverage;
commitment to publication ethics and responsible research practices; and
willingness to contribute actively to the Journal's editorial activities.

The Journal is committed to maintaining an Editorial Board that reflects international diversity in geography, academic discipline, institutional affiliation, gender, and professional experience.

Appointment and Terms of Service

Editorial Board appointments are made by invitation of the Editor-in-Chief/Associate Editors and are subject to acceptance by the invited scholar.

Before appointment, prospective Editorial Board members shall receive:

a formal invitation outlining the purpose of the appointment;
a description of the expected editorial responsibilities;
information regarding the Journal's editorial policies and publication ethics; and
a clear statement that Editorial Board membership is an honorary, voluntary, and unpaid academic appointment unless otherwise specified.

Appointed members are expected to participate actively in the Journal's editorial activities and to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical conduct throughout their term of service.

JISSIF periodically reviews Editorial Board membership to ensure continued engagement, disciplinary relevance, and effective support for the Journal's long-term strategic objectives.
